However, it’s not yet known how the cuts will affect service at individual airports, including Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport in Pittston Township, Comair spokeswoman Katie Moser said.

SCRANTON - Today is the last day for the rain that’s been soaking the area since late last week, WYOU-TV chief meteorologist Scott Stuccio said.

The rain has dropped 4.77 inches in Avoca, Mr. Stuccio said, more than the monthly average of just over 3 inches. Parts of Pike County have reported up to 13 inches, he said.

Mr. Lyon, who was 15 at the time the crimes were committed, fled to Canada when he was about to be charged, and Canadian authorities extradited him to Pennsylvania last October to face charges, court records show.

None of the materials that spilled was hazardous or entered the nearby Delaware River, Chief Wall said. A steady dose of rain over the last week caused the derailment, Chief Wall said.

The wreckage has blocked access to about five homes off Bee Hollow Road. Chief Wall said the mess should be cleaned up by today. No one was injured, Chief Wall said.

SCRANTON - Two housing projects that sought to add more units than the zoning ordinance allows were shot down this week by the Zoning Hearing Board.

Palazzetto LLC sought a variance to put two prefabricated homes on a lot at 321-323 Taylor Ave. to create four student apartments, zoning board member Joseph Wechsler said. The board unanimously denied the request because there was no proven hardship, Mr. Wechsler said.

The other variance sought to create 32 townhouse units on Saginaw Street near Connell Park. The estimated project cost was $3 million. The site is zoned for 16 to 18 units.
